Hug the way you love

Sometimes loving people is the only gift you'll ever give them.

Fweedom
A tale of the brave children who fought for their rights in the Birmingham, Alabama Children's March

Take one
Running,
Chaos,
Water pelts my legs,
My arms,
My back.
I'm running,
I think,
I don't know where my friends went.
Am I lost?
I can't see,
So many people.
In a clear moment I see a group
Twelve of us are standing strong
Hands squeezed tight
Faces contorted with pain
and determination
If I listen hard enough I can almost hear them singing
What are those words?
"Freedom
Freedom
Freedom!"

Take two
The cell is so cramped
I don't recognize half of these people
Through the walls we yell to the others
It's a game to them
I am scared
I won't admit it
I see a face
A child of only four
The officer approaches him
"Why are you here?"
How gruff his voice
How intimidating his glare
We are not people to him
We are not even children
We are not human
Without a wimper the child replies
"Fweedom"...

This is the story of over 2,000 children in Birmingham, Alabama. Over the course of a few days police arrested and held thousands of children (as young as 4) for protesting...for trying to get rights for themselves and their future....They won

Or did they? Here's a look at their possible future.

Take Three
SNAP
Another broken pencil
Third this week
No spare in my bag
Crossing the room I feel watched
Four months in this school
I am a continual stranger
A trespasser
The room is quiet
Too quiet
The grind of the sharpener
Too loud
Satisfaction is found in a sharp point
Walking back my foot is caught
No, I'm tripped
I fall
A disruption
A trip to the office in store
Second time today
The principal will see me
Does he see me at all?
And here I thought this school meant
Freedom

Take Four
I walk into the building
Find relief in cool air
"Dress your best"
How relative that phrase
Resume in hand
References sparse
I answer with confidence
Did I say something wrong?
I walked in
Her face dropped
Is it my suit?
No,
It's my skin.
This woman is not interested
"Do you have any questions for me?"
Yes,
what will it take?
How much longer
until
Freedom

changedfish- white privelage runs rampant
